EastEnders heartbreak as Lola returns to Albert Square for last time ahead of death

EastEnders fans were left in tears tonight as Lola Pearce returned to Albert Square for the final time.

Fans were heartbroken as they tuned into the BBC soap tonight to see Lola come back to the Square for one last time ahead of her death. Lola, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour, has been told by doctors that there is nothing more that they can do and all treatment has been suspended.

She has made a decision to be at home with her family, with her husband Jay backing her decision and making sure all the family are ready to welcome her back for as long as they might have her with them.

As Lola returned home in an ambulance, Billy and Honey were stood outside the house, waiting for them to arrive. Sonia and Kathy came by to offer their well wishes, as Kathy promised a free of charge takeaway from Beale's Plaice for them to help them settle in.

Lola was wheeled out of the ambulance on a stretcher as she took a look around the Square, whilst Jay watched on. As they planned to wheel her into the house, Jay had other ideas and picked her up in his arms.

He carried her across the threshold, as the ambulance workers followed them in, making sure she had everything she needed.

Fans rushed to social media to comment on the heartbreaking scenes ahead of Lola's death, with one viewer writing: "Lola’s scenes are breaking my heart. I’m not ready for Lola to go #EastEnders."

"The fact Lola is now home to pass away just breaks my heart, so so sad #eastenders," a second added, as a third penned online: "Lola coming home... for the last time #EastEnders." A fourth wrote: "Lola’s coming home #EastEnders," alongside crying emojis.

In heartbreaking scenes last week, Lola and Jay made one final trip to the seaside. It came after the family found a very confused Lola outside the gym and quickly took her home to rest as she noticed an impairment with her speech and mobility.

Billy and Jay suggested she headed to hospital and after being assessed by doctors, a weak Lola was devastated when she was told her palliative chemotherapy treatment isn't working – with her and Jay keen to make every moment count.

It will all end for Lola in heartbreaking scenes, which will see her bravely continue to fight as her family struggle with all that's happening and how both they can cope and support Lola's daughter Lexi too.
