EastEnders' Gray Atkins tries to kill his own kids in terrifying scenes

EastEnders aired terrifying scenes on Thursday night, as killer Gray Atkins was seconds away from going through with a horrific murder plot.

Gray, struggling with the guilt of killing his wife Chantelle last month, decided to take his own life, but to also murder his children in the process.

He saw no other way out, and claimed to his young children that they were going to see their late mother again just weeks after her death.

Gray then chillingly told his kids that all they had to do was sleep, and they'd wake up to see their mother again.

He was then shown messing with the pipes in his kitchen near the boiler to cause a gas leak.

As viewers watched on in horror, he then picked up a lighter and a cloth and prepared to cause the house to explode.

As his kids slept upstairs, he planned to kill them all in an instant to stop his guilt, and to apparently reunite them all with Chantelle.

Luckily he was stopped with seconds to spare, by neighbour Shirley Carter.

Shirley wanted to give him a piece of her mind, over the way he shouted at her daughter-in-law Linda this week.

But as soon as she barged into the house, she smelled the gas and questioned what was happening.

Gray lied that it was the hob, but she soon noticed the lighter in his hand and realised what he was planning.

As she tried to talk him out of it, she then realised the kids were upstairs and that it wasn't just him he was planning on killing.

She warned him how others nearby could be harmed too, and that he needed to think of his kids - as it wasn't what his late wife would want.

Luckily, Shirley managed to talk him out of it and he dropped the lighter before breaking down in tears.

EastEnders airs Mondays at 8.05pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.35pm and Fridays at 8.30pm on BBC One.
