EastEnders fury as Keegan set up by racist officer with tampered evidence and huge lie

EastEnders viewers were heartbroken and furious for Keegan Baker on Tuesday night amid the soap's ongoing racism plot, as the character was cruelly set up for a crime he didn't commit.

The police officers involved took huge lengths to incriminate him for no reason at all, even tampering with evidence to stop him being proven innocent.

Keegan found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time with wife Tiffany Butcher, as a brawl erupted on the street after a house party.

The officers on the scene were met with abuse, and it wasn't long before a brick was chucked through the window of one of their vans.

As Keegan made a run for it to protect his wife, the detectives stormed over and arrested him, claiming he was the culprit.

But their lies to pin the crime on Keegan escalated in the latest episode of the BBC soap, and it became very clear very quickly that they were appearing to intentionally set him up.

Keegan has faced discrimination and racism a number of times in recent scenes, from the police and others - something wife Tiffany couldn't see at the time.

Tiffany finally realised what Keegan had been dealing with when she witnessed him be pinned to the ground and shoved in a police van, when it was evident he had done nothing wrong.

She begged her detective uncle Jack Branning for help, with him determined to help Keegan by heading to the station to see whether it had been a misunderstanding.

Viewers were left disgusted though, as Jack's colleague detective Steve told him a string of lies about Keegan to make him look guilty - even swaying Jack's own mind about the incident.

He claimed Keegan had resisted arrest and even attacked him, getting up in his face and lashing out while they tried to take him away.

Keegan himself was shown video footage that appeared to show him resisting and pushing, with the teenager claiming he himself was shoved, and that the angle of the camera made it seem otherwise.

Steve later contradicted this claim too suggesting Keegan tried to do a runner, something Jack didn't even notice.

Then, Steve also told Jack how he had actually seen Keegan chuck the brick, another clear lie, while he went on to reveal the only camera footage that could prove what really happened had been damaged in the fight.

While Jack wanted to give Keegan the benefit of the doubt, it was clear his experience with police brawls and the word of his pal had swayed him into believing the evidence pointed the finger at Keegan.

As he went to have a chat with him, Keegan very quickly realised that not only was he being stitched up but that Jack couldn't see it.

He told Jack that the officers "picked out the first black face they could see" to stitch them up for the crime, but Jack hit out at his accusation suggesting it "wasn't about race".

Keegan was eventually released on bail fearing for his future, with viewers rallying behind him while sharing their disgust at the scenes unfolding at the police station.

EastEnders airs Mondays at 8pm, and Tuesdays at 7:30pm on BBC One.
