EastEnders films tear-jerking funeral scenes as Jay and Billy carry tragic Lola's coffin

EastEnders pictures reveal sad scenes ahead, as cast members filmed the funeral of Lola Pearce ahead of her death airing on the BBC soap.

Lola was diagnosed with a brain tumour last year, and after finding out her condition was terminal she was told there was nothing they could do for her.

This week after suffering with her mobility and pain, she was taken to hospital where she learned the heartbreaking news she had only weeks to live.

It was recently revealed Lola's final scenes had been filmed as well as her funeral, with cast members gathering to remember the character in scenes yet to air.

Now, new pictures from location show the devastating moment Lola's husband Jay Brown and grandfather Billy Mitchell, amongst others, carry her coffin into the church at her funeral.

The snaps show Jay and Billy joined by Ben Mitchell, Callum Highway, Rocky and Phil Mitchell carrying the white coffin into the funeral service.

As the grieving characters say farewell to Lola, other characters including Kathy Beale, Whitney Dean, Honey Mitchell and Denise Fox attend the ceremony in bright colours.

There are a series of bright bouquets too in tribute to the tragic character, with others in attendance including Sonia Fowler, Zack Hudson, Jack Branning and Bernadette Taylor, and the service is led by Reverend Mills.

In another emotional picture, Billy is seen sobbing by Lola's graveside as he's comforted by Lola's husband Jay.

Bily is wearing jeans and a polo t-shirt for the occasion, while others are also seen in casual wear - while there are also characters in suits and dresses.

The cast seemed in high spirits during breaks from filming, united as they bid farewell to co-star Danielle Harold.

While in character, it's clear all of Walford are heartbroken by the loss of Lola, with her loved ones seen grieving at the funeral.

Danielle has played the role since 2011, while she was away from Walford between 2015 and 2019 after being written out.

It was announced last year that the character was being killed off, and that Lola would be diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Danielle recently took to Instagram after filming her final scenes, thanking fans for their support.

Posting a message alongside a photo of Lola in a hospital bed, she wrote: "Lola’s story has been a very hard one to tell and one that means so much to me and sadly effects so many people.

"Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer yet historically only 1% of research is allocated to this devastating disease.

"I would like to take a moment for everybody that has reached out to me and shared their experiences with me , I have read every message And hold all of your messages close to my heart whilst playing this story.

"I have been blessed to meet the most incredible people and work with some wonderful charities along the way and I want to thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart for all your support advise and love."

Next week on the BBC soap, dying Lola will struggle with her new prognosis after being told this week she has just weeks to live.

Lola has been in hospital prior to next Monday's episode airing, and in this episode she is brought home by her family.

Ben and Jay are both struggling to come to terms with her new prognosis, but rally around Lola and her daughter Lexi.

Lola arrives home and is greeted by the residents of Walford as they rally around the family for support.

As the week goes on, Lola becomes low as she struggles with her speech and her deterioration, with the reality of her prognosis setting in for her.

She refuses to see the younger members of the family, and her family struggle around her with her declining health.

Later, Reverend Mills visits Lola to share her religious outlook on death which comes as some comfort for the character.

She has no idea her ill health is leading to clashes between certain family members, as Ben accuses her loved ones of accepting Lola’s prognosis too easily - leading to a showdown between Ben and Jay.

Later in the week as the family gather in Lola’s bedroom to check in on her, Ben has other ideas.

While he does end up seeing her, feeling guilty, he later leaves a voicemail for Dr Washington in the US requesting help to ensure Lola will live longer.

Sadly this will not be the case, and Lola will pass away in upcoming scenes.

EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
