EastEnders filming begins again with stars seen social distancing in scenes

Walford is coming to life again as the cameras start rolling on the EastEnders set after its enforced shutdown due to the coronavirus lockdown.

In the first pics of the new scenes being filmed, Danny Dyer can be seen social distancing from Kellie Bright as they show how life in Albert Square will change.

Danny, as Mick Carter, and Kellie as his on-screen wife Linda Carter can be seen outside the Queen Vic pub with the coronavirus protocols in place.

Cast and crew have returned to Elstree Studios in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire for the first episodes since the lockdown, with the hope that the BBC soap will be back on TV by September, though this has not been confirmed yet by the Beeb.

There will be a little difference though as the new episodes are expected to be 20 minutes long instead of the usual half an hour but there will be four episodes a week.

"Since we postponed filming we’ve been working non-stop trialling techniques, filming methods and new ways of working so that we can return to screens four times a week – as EastEnders should be.

"Filming will inevitably be a more complex process now so creating 20 minute episodes will enable us to ensure that when we return, EastEnders will still be the show the audience know and love.”

The final pre-filmed episodes will end next week with the final episode on Tuesday, June 16 expected to end on a cliff hanger by soap stalwarts Sharon Watts and Phil Mitchell.

From Monday, June 22 there will be a spin-off show taking up the slack for EastEnders fans, in which stars of the soap will reveal off-camera secrets.

Linda Bright and Danny Dyer will be the first up to give an insight to what happens behind-the-scenes with the promise of some exclusive revelations.
