EastEnders fans 'rumble Cindy Beale return plot' in witness protection 'twist'

EastEnders fans think they know how Cindy Beale's return from the dead will be explained, ahead of her comeback later this year on the BBC soap.

The Mirror recently confirmed that Cindy would be heading back to Walford after more than 20 years away, with actress Michelle Collins reprising the role.

Viewers have been speculating how the show will bring her back after so long, ahead of the BBC soap confirming the news or the exact storyline.

It's thought she will head back to Walford with her ex-husband Ian Beale, the same husband she tried to have killed with a hitman in the 90s.

Now, viewers believe they have cracked the case and have worked out where Cindy has been all this time.

Cindy's exit saw her sent to prison for a conspiracy to murder Ian, while she was pregnant at the time with a man named Nick's child.

She was thought to have died during childbirth in prison when welcoming baby Cindy Jr.

Many fans think Cindy may have faked her death and gone into witness protection, as the person she had got involved with to kill Ian was a dangerous man.

The hitman helped Ian grass up Cindy in the first place, but could Cindy have found herself in serious danger leading to her being moved into witness protection?

Viewers certainly think so, with some taking to Twitter with their predictions about her big comeback.

One viewer tweeted: "They're going to explain Cindy's return by saying she was in witness protection."

Another convinced fan wrote: "Cindy being in witness protection has been one of my top ideas for the show."

The comeback will also see the return of Ian actor Adam Woodyatt who, while briefly on screen in December 2022, left the soap for a break in early 2021.

In the time Cindy has been away two of her children, Stephen and Lucy, have been killed off - while Lucy's killer, her own brother Bobby, is back in Walford.

Cindy's son Peter and daughter Cindy Jr are both away from Albert Square at the moment, but could a reunion be on the cards?

EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
