EastEnders fans rejoice as new Queen Vic owner teased - and it's a blast from the past

EastEnders aired a potential twist in the latest episode of the BBC soap.

It was confirmed recently that the Carter family planned to sell up The Queen Vic pub to new owners.

Mick and Linda Carter have run the pub with Shirley and Tina since their arrival in 2013.

But amid Linda's alcoholism battle, the landlady has decided that a new start out of the pub will help her with her recovery.

Viewers have been speculating who might take over the pub next, or if someone new might be on the way.

The BBC soap may have dropped their first big hint about who could be taking over the barrels - and it's a blast from the past.

In fact, if the particular name has his way he and another Walford legend will run the place together.

During a scene on the soap on Tuesday night, Shirley Carter told pal Phil Mitchell all about the family's plan to leave the pub.

He had just told her about his plan to win wife Sharon back after their recent heartbreak.

Following the death of her son Dennis, and with Phil's son Ben Mitchell being told he may never hear again after an injury, he wants to get the family back together.

Shirley was quick to tell him she might now how he could do it.

She told Phil the pub was up for sale and looking for new owners, getting Phil thinking.

After Shirley reminded him that Sharon loved the pub, Phil had a look on his face that suggested he was very keen on the idea.

Both he and Sharon have a strong history in the pub, with his late mother Peggy Mitchell running it on more than one occasion - while Sharon also ran the pub years after her late parents Den and Angie Watts owned it.

Viewers were super excited at the prospect of the Mitchells and the Watts being back where they belonged.

EastEnders airs Mondays at 8pm, and Tuesdays at 7:30pm on BBC One.
