EastEnders fans rage as policewoman asks rape survivor Honey about alcohol tolerance

EastEnders fans were left seething with rage this evening after Honey Mitchell was asked by a police officer about how much she had drunk while out with rapist Paul, and her alcohol tolerance.

Honey, played by Emma Barton, had her drink spiked by date Paul and fell unconscious on the floor in an alleyway.

Paul had filmed her and unzipped his jeans to sexually assault her, but was interrupted by Jay, who chased after her and called 999.

Tonight, Honey woke up in hospital with no idea of what happened, leading Jay (Jamie Borthwick) to tell her about the assault.

Honey decided to report the assault to the police and was interviewed by an officer, whose questions angered viewers.

The policewoman began by suggesting that they talk about her first date with Paul and asked whether she had drunk any alcohol then.

"Yeah, I had a glass of wine and some soda," she replied. "Or maybe it was two... sorry, my heads all over the place."

Honey was tearful before insisting: "I want you to know that I don't make a habit of getting drunk in the daytime or at any time for that matter because I have kids. I have a job."

Jay interjected to say that he had never seen her drunk in his life, to which the officer replied: "I'm just trying to get an idea of Mrs Mitchell's alcohol tolerance. So please, if I may?"

She continued to ask Honey about whether Paul had given her any indication during their first date that made her feel uncomfortable or unsafe.

"No, of course not, otherwise I wouldn't have gone on another date with him," Honey replied. "He seemed nice. I wouldn't normally go on another date so quickly but I pushed myself. All the morning I was thinking of excuses not to go, something that wouldn't upset him. But he seemed so keen, so nice.

"He texted only 15 minutes earlier that he felt excited to see me, made me feel special. So I pushed myself, and look where that got me. I just thought he really liked me."

As Honey began to cry, Jay told the police officer: "I'm sorry, but she could have drunk five bottles of wine, she could have been on 50 dates with this fella, I still shouldn't have found her like that!

"She's one of the kindest, nicest people I know and she doesn't deserve to be here!"

Too right, Jay.
