EastEnders fans fear Ben Mitchell is seriously ill after worrying signs amid discovery

EastEnders aired worrying scenes this week, ahead of Ben Mitchell's operation.

The character, played by Max Bowden, lost his hearing earlier this year after hitting his head during the boat crash.

He's been booked in to have a cochlear implant operation which carries its own risks, and while it could save his hearing there's a chance it might not work.

Ben has been struggling recently with having to wait for his operation, amid a new job he and dad Phil Mitchell are involved in.

But there's further distress for him next week, when the day of his operation arrives.

This week, fans have grown concerned for Ben after noticing he has been unwell.

From looking a little peaky and appearing sweaty and fragile, fans also spotted him dabbing his face in a number of scenes.

While he's kept the fact he's a little under the weather a secret, it is clear he has a fever.

Fans were unsure if he was feeling anxious over his operation, while Lola Pearce soon revealed his daughter Lexi was suffering with a high fever.

Ben is determined the operation will go ahead so is staying quiet, but Tuesday's episode appeared to show his health deteriorate leaving many worried.

While some even questioned if the soap was tackling a coronavirus related storyline due to a fever being a key symptom of COVID-19, this is unlikely seeing as the scenes were filmed prior to the lockdown.

That said, some fans were convinced something is wrong with the character, ahead of doctors revealing he is too unwell to have the operation next week.

One fan said: "Ben saying it’s just hot in here he clearly isn't well poor lamb."

Another tweeted: "Ben feeling and looking unwell in tonight's EastEnders episode."

A third added: "Something is wrong with Ben. You can’t convince me it’s just Lexi’s virus."

Meanwhile, a fourth said: "Uh oh, Ben and Lexie with high temperatures. Possible Covid19 storyline?"

Another fan commented: "Wonder what's wrong with Ben?"

EastEnders airs Mondays at 8pm, and Tuesdays at 7:30pm on BBC One.
