EastEnders fans elated as Phil punches Callum's dad after horrific homophobia

EastEnders fans were left elated tonight when Phil Mitchell punches Callum Highway's dad in the face.

Nasty Jonno Highway made an unwelcome return to Albert Square and had a showdown with his son in the Queen Vic.

Stuart and Whitney tried to cover up the real reason for the wedding being cancelled, but Callum bravely came out as gay to his father.

Furious Jonno was left in disbelief then started shouting disgusting homophobic insults towards his own son.

There was a heated scuffle but before things got out of hand Callum got support from an unlikely source.

Phil has struggled to deal with his son's sexuality in the past but sprung to Callum and Ben's defence in classic Mitchell fashion.

The Walford hardman gave Jonno a classic right hook straight on the nose that left him sprawled on the floor.

Everyone then demanded that Jonno left Albert Square for good after his horrible insults.

With his newfound confidence, Callum told Ben that he wanted to give their relationship another go.

The pair then kissed in public outside the Queen Vic in romantic scenes - and even Callum's ex Whitney was smiling.

Is this going to be the start of a beautiful relationship for Ballum?

"What is this Phil sticking up for his gay son finally....haha no but ayy gotta love Phil and ben was literally tearing up," added another.

A third said: "Erratic #EastEnders comes good tonight. Phil Mitchell's gay friction with Callum's dad....great line, great storyline. @stevemcfadden the master as always"

"Phil Mitchell is always my favourite character but I think he just peaked," said a fourth.

EastEnders airs Mondays and Fridays at 8pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One.
