EastEnders fans delighted as Bobby and Dana kiss following months of strict Covid rules

EastEnders fans were stunned after tuning into Tuesday night's episode and witnessing a kiss between Bobby Beale and Dana Monroe.

Despite soaps such as Emmerdale and Coronation Street not allowing such intimate scenes, actors Barbara Smith and Clay Milner Russell enjoyed a smooch as they got close.

Bobby - who has been lying to Dana - took advantage of having an empty house and took her back to his so they could get cosy in the bedroom.

As they both confessed that they'd never done anything like this before, the couple shared a sweet kiss in the living room with the intention of heading upstairs.

"I'm not really used to this, bringing people back here, because of my nan and everything," Bobby told Dana.

"Where do you usually bring your girlfriends, then?" she wondered, as Bobby replied: "There probably haven't been as many as you think."

"This is your first time, isn't it?" Dana asked, as Bobby insisted he'd been "so focused on the business" that he didn't have time to think about girls.

"I thought one of us would know what we're doing, it's kind of my first time, too," Dana explained.

"I just wanted to wait for someone I really liked and trusted - and now I've found him," she added.

Viewers tuning in were gobsmacked by their kiss and took to Twitter to comment.

One person tweeted: "#EastEnders not seen a screen kiss in a year!!!"

Another fan posted: "A kissing scene!" with two clapping emojis.

And a third viewer added: "#EastEnders has kissing scenes again. Which other UK soap do you think will be the last one to return to that?"

"Wait, they're back to kissing on #EastEnders now..." a fourth person posted.

Ever since the cast of EastEnders returned to work following lockdown, they've been forced to adjust to a new normal and use clever camera tricks or perspex screens in order to film certain scenes.

But Bobby and Dana aren't the first characters to kiss in recent months, as Whitney Dean and Kush Kazemi enjoyed a kiss before his tragic death.

Ben Mitchell and Callum Highway also got close when they got married, and it's been revealed that certain actors sometimes live in a bubble together or close contact cohorts.

However, Emmerdale and Coronation Street have opted for a more socially distanced approach.

Just recently, Kim Tate actress Claire King revealed the special way in which they filmed a scene which featured more than four characters.

In order to do it safely, only four cast members were allowed in a room at one time - meaning the other characters had to sit in another room and read out their lines.

And in Coronation Street, Alina Pop and Tyrone Dobbs' first kiss was acted out by a real-life couple, which left some viewers in hysterics.
