EastEnders fans criticise Ruby Allen twist after endometriosis diagnosis

EastEnders fans were critical of the twist that played out after Ruby Allen was diagnosed with endometriosis.

This evening, Ruby was left devastated after discovering that she had the condition, where tissue similar to the lining of the womb starts to grow in other places, such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes.

The condition means that it can make it difficult to conceive a baby.

Initially, viewers believed that Ruby had softened after Jean Slater had begged her to change her statement to the police about Stacey.

Ruby promised to call the detective on the case and detract her statement, but later told Jean it was too late.

Yet, once Jean was gone, Ruby was seen speaking to the police and saying that she had nothing else to add about her statement.

And the twist upset viewers, some of whom felt that Ruby's villainous decision meant that her condition was overlooked.

One tweeted: "I don't want endometriosis to be overlooked during this storyline because of the character being a villain. #EastEnders."

While another commented: "It’s amazing that #EastEnders are tackling important issues like miscarriage and endometriosis ... but I feel like they’ve given it to such an unlikeable character so I am not feeling the feels I should be!"

A third wrote: "So glad #eastenders are doing an endometriosis storyline but they have completely ruined it already with the villain edit of Ruby’s character using it as a revenge ploy for Stacey. People won’t feel sorry for her/take the condition seriously. #eastenders

"Shame the #endometriosis angle is gonna be completely overlooked due to the manipulative woman it effects... Not a good call #Eastenders," another commented.

Meanwhile, other furious fans took to Twitter to rage over Ruby's lying to Jean, with one commenting: "Ruby is such a poisonous cow, it is impossible to feel any sympathy for her at all. #EastEnders."

While another fumed: "Ruby still a witch #eastenders."

A third fumed: "We knew Ruby wouldn't drop the case. #EastEnders."

Another seethed: "How did we get from Ruby vehemently never wanting kids to this... I'm sorry but this issue based story is so empty and I can't bring myself to care about a character whose personality has died for the plot. Shame because Ruby was so likeable previously #EastEnders."

"And I thought for a minute that Ruby had a heart #EastEnders," another commented.

One wrote: "Ruby is an actual villain #eastenders."
