EastEnders fans convinced Ben Mitchell has COVID-19 as he collapses with cough

EastEnders viewers were convinced Ben Mitchell has come down with coronavirus after Tuesday's episode, dubbed the "season finale".

In the last episode before the show goes off air for at least five weeks, Ben collapsed and went to hospital.

He told Jay he was suffering from the flu, but Jay realised Ben's hearing loss was what was really bothering him.

He has lost his hearing since the boat party in February where he burst his eardrum, and has been in agony and suffered from seizures.

One fan tweeted: "Ben’s had that cough a long time, definitely got Corona #EastEnders ".

Another pondered: "Does Ben have corona?? #eastenders ".

" EastEnders Ben in need of a mild steroid to make sure he survives. #coronavirus " added a third.

"Oh my ‘as @BenderMitchell_ got the Corona flu? #EastEnders " remarked a fourth.

EastEnders has now run out of episodes, amid rumours it may not be back on air until September.

In its place will be new spin-off Secrets From The Square on Mondays, followed by classic episodes on Tuesdays.

But it seems viewers could be desperate for the show to return, judging by what happens tonight - which is being dubbed by fans as the show's "season finale".

Soap expert Sharon Marshall has seen the episode told Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on This Morning that a date has not been set for when EastEnders will be back on screen, while cast and crew return to the set later this month to start up filming again.
