EastEnders fans 'can't stop crying' as Mick's abuser Katy is put away for 10 years

EastEnders fans were in floods of tears during Friday night's episode as Katy Lewis was finally sent to prison.

The day had finally arrived for Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) to read out his victim statement in court after being sexually abused by Katy (Simone Lahbib) as a child.

However, Mick missed the chance to have his say after finding his daughter Nancy outside the court having a terrifying seizure.

Instead, Linda and Shirley listened as a member of the court read out the statement in which Mick spoke about how the abuse has affected him as an adult.

After calling an ambulance for Nancy, Mick walked back inside just as Katy was being sentenced.

The landlord looked overcome with emotion as the judge told Katy that she was going to prison for 10 years.

Viewers tuning in at home were also feeling emotional and took to Twitter to comment.

"Wow. Powerful scene. #EastEnders has me in tears," one person posted.

Another wrote: "Wow! What an episode, I can’t stop crying #EastEnders," while a third added: "That monologue just killed me. #EastEnders."

A fourth viewer tweeted: "Justice For Mick - Finally #Eastenders," while another commented on the special EastEnders theme tune being played, saying: "#EastEnders that music. Got me in floods."

As Katy was taken down to her cell, she stopped to say "sorry" to Mick, but it was clear that he had no sympathy for her whatsoever and left the court with his family and a smile on his face.

Mick was previously confused when Frankie Lewis arrived in Walford before dropping the bombshell that she thought he was her real father.

It was when she revealed her mother's name though that Mick was clearly shocked, and trying to keep the secret from his loved ones as he felt ashamed about the abuse.

Other viewers praised the BBC soap for tackling the difficult storyline and tweeted: "Yes, I know that #Eastenders is just a TV show but I feel genuinely jealous of a character finding justice taking a child abuser to court.

"Some of us cannot do that and can never have justice. It is so unfair. Well done for showing the impact of child abuse on adult survivors."

EastEnders airs Mondays and Fridays at 8pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One.
