EastEnders fans blast 'grim' teen pregnancy story as Lily plans lavish gender reveal

Lily Slater couldn't contain her joy after secretly finding out the gender of her unborn child but EastEnders fans rushed to complain about the storyline.

The daughter of Stacey Slater is currently expecting her first child with Ricky Mitchell, despite being just 12 and had plans to throw a gender reveal party.

In recent weeks, viewers have seen the teens struggle to come to terms with the fact they're going to become parents, with their peers often teasing them in school.

But after a few harsh comments from his mum, Sam Mitchell, Ricky vowed to be there and stand by Lily and their child.

Shortly after the pair saw their little one on the screen while at their 12-week scan, Lily informed Stacey that the gender would be kept a secret – until they throw a party.

The pre-teen informed her mum that she planned to bake a cake to share the gender of the tot with their nearest and dearest in a bid to save cash.

Despite Lily and Ricky's excitement, viewers were far from impressed as they flocked to social media to share their outrage.

"Every single thing to do with Lily and this awful pregnancy storyline makes me roll my eyes. I just can't with it," fumed one.

While a second added: "Gender reveal party... THIS IS GRIM #EastEnders."

"Gender reveal party, they're just children themselves – so sad #EastEnders," commented a third.

Another added: "A gender reveal party for a 12-year-old. - I'm still trying to get my head around how wrong this is #EastEnders."

"Lily and Ricky planning a gender reveal party when Stacey is having money problems #EastEnders," commented another.

However, it wasn't all fun and games for Ricky who later blasted his mum after she joked about life before having a child which included sipping "endless champagne on yachts" while living in Spain.

She told Honey Mitchell: "I miss the days going out and partying until my feet hurt," before looking at her son and saying: "You're going to have a five-year-old before you can even drink!"

After returning from the scan, Ricky rushed to Peggy's bar to see his mum who at first was elated to see her only child make an appearance.

Clearly hurt by Sam's earlier comments, Ricky exclaimed: "I'm going to do everything for that baby, 3am feeds, I don't need you.

"No moody teenagers to get in the way of your fun now, I don't need you never have."

EastEnders airs at 7.30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer Monday - Thursday.
