EastEnders fans baffled as Kathy Beale attends funeral dressed as 'mob widow'

EastEnders viewers were left a little perplexed by Kathy Beale's choice of funeral attire tonight.

There were emotional scenes during this evening's episode as the Albert Square residents gathered to say their final farewells during Dennis Rickman's funeral.

While Sharon Mitchell paid tribute to her late son during the touching episode, fans appeared somewhat distracted by Kathy and her enormous black hat.

She paired the fedora with a black outfit, but viewers didn't spare a minute in calling out the accessory.

"Why is Kathy wearing a fedora? She looks like she’s either gonna break out into a Bugsy Malone number!!! #EastEnders " wrote one bemused viewer.

Some likened her outfit to some hilarious alternative characters such as Indiana Jones and a certain famous wrestler.

"Kathy's come as WWE legend The Undertaker #Eastenders " joked one.

"I know it's a funeral but you don't have to dress as The Undertaker, Kathy #EastEnders " another similarly pointed out.

Others found the accessory was quite a strong look, writing: "Kathy’s fabulous hat #EastEnders #NewProfilePic."

It wasn't the only highlight of tonight's episode, as following a heartfelt funeral Sharon was left stunned following Phil's return to Walford.

The character went one step further and even went to Dennis' wake despite not having an invitite.

Sharon is currently convinced that Phil is to blame for Dennis' tragic drowning following last month's botched boat party.

EastEnders airs Mondays at 8pm and Tuesdays at 7.30pm on BBC One
