EastEnders viewers have called out Patrick Trueman's 'underwhelming' return to Albert Square after actor Rudolph Walker made his long-awaited comeback to the BBC One soap this evening.
The long-running character has been off our screens for months on end, and given that he is one of cast favourites, EastEnders viewers were hoping for a more memorable return for Patrick - but they were left disappointed as the iconic character simply walked into The Queen Vic to be greeted by an unenthusiastic welcome.
It's safe to say that Patrick has returned at the right time, as Kim finds herself in prison for contempt of court as she awaits her medical certificate which states that she suffers with severe anxiety, and while Denise and Jack at each other’s throats.
Feuding couple Denise and Jack were shouting at one another when Patrick turned up just on time before Denise was about to suggest that she and Jack should think about getting a divorce.
Patrick’s arrival back to Albert Square did very little to soften the tense atmosphere between the couple, with Jack fleeing the house, leaving Patrick to give Denise some advice she had been waiting to hear.
Following Patrick's poignant conversation with Denise, viewers called out BBC bosses for not giving him a happier return to the soap following his absence in scenes over the past couple of months.
"Patrick Trueman is back but it seems nobody in Albert Square cares.... they're too wrapped up in their own s**t," one viewer complained.
"Why is nobody excited that Patrick has come back," another complained, while another unimpressed EastEnders viewer called out the writers as they fumed: "Patrick is the best character on the show and one of the longest running since Dot so why did the writers not make a bigger deal about him coming back this evening."
