EastEnders' DC Barnes actress played another role on same soap decades ago

EastEnders fans may recognise the actress playing DC Barnes on the BBC soap, amid drama with Ruby Allen and Stacey Slater.

But what some viewers may not know is that actress Alwyne Taylor has been on the soap in another role before, possibly two.

Alwyne played a midwife on the show back in March 1997, during the birth of Tiffany and Grant Mitchell's daughter Courtney.

The midwife supported Tiffany, played by Martine McCutcheon, as she welcomed her first child.

The actress also starred as a police officer on the soap before this - and perhaps this was the first appearance of officer Barnes!

Currently, DC Barnes has been interviewing Stacey over the recent accident involving her former pal Ruby, which Ruby claims led to the loss of her unborn baby.

Stacey did not push Ruby down the steps, but she's making it seem as though this is the case.

DC Barnes looked back at some of the CCTV footage after questioning both Stacey and Ruby, with it not looking good for Stacey.

Back in 2019, Barnes made her debut when she was part of the investigation into Mel Owen's husband Ray Kelly.

She was one of the officers who informed her he had escaped police custody - leading to a deadly showdown.

Actress Alwyne has been in another soap too, playing two separate guest roles in ITV's Emmerdale.

She also appeared in numerous episodes of ITV hit Midsomer Murders from 1998 to 2007.

Other shows fans may recognise her face from include The Bill, Hollyoaks spin-off series Let Loose and The Brief.

Grange Hill, Heartbeat, Peak Practice, Casualty and London's Burning are all series that Alwyne has also appeared in over the years.

EastEnders airs Mondays and Fridays at 8pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One.
