EastEnders' Danny Walters apologises for 'immature' homophobic tweets

EastEnders star Danny Walters has apologised for homophobic tweets he sent, calling them "immature".

The actor, who plays Keanu Taylor in the BBC soap, spoke out after anti-gay tweets he sent as a 19 year old were unearthed.

Danny, now 25, posted the slurs back in 2012, when he told one friend: "Also you owe me £5 you f****t!"

In another tweet, he called a friend "you little f**".

The messages were sent before Danny began working on ITV's Benidorm in his breakthrough role as Tiger Dyke.

Apologising for the slurs, he told The Sun : "I am very sorry for posting these immature comments to a friend when I was 19-years-old.

"It’s not language I would ever use now and I’d like to apologise to anyone I’ve offended."

A friend added to the paper that Danny "doesn't have a bad bone in him".

They said: "Danny is feeling absolutely mortified that something he posted when he was younger has come back to bite him."

Danny has since deleted one of the offensive tweets.

It comes after Emmerdale star Shila Iqbal was fired from her role as Aiesha Richards for tweets she sent in 2013, when she was aged 19.

She had sent out posts containing the N-word and using "gay" as an insult.

She issued a public apology taking full responsibility for her "inappropriate language".

She said: "I am terribly sorry and take full responsibility for my use of such inappropriate language. I have paid the price and can no longer continue the job I loved the most at Emmerdale.

"Although I was young when I made the Tweets, it was still completely wrong of me to do so and I sincerely apologise.

"The only consideration I would ask is that I have recently received hateful tweets telling me that as a Muslim my Emmerdale role means that I am ‘committing sinful acts, promoting sin and deliberately going against the Quran’.

"We live in sensitive times for members of all communities and especially those in multi-racial Rochdale where I grew up.

"I regret that I too have let people down by the use of such language, albeit six years ago. I, like everyone else have a responsibility about the language I have used on social media as well as in conversation."

Mirror Online has contacted Danny's representatives for comment.
