EastEnders' Danny Dyer teases 'powerful' and 'important' new Mick Carter storyline

EastEnders' Mick Carter is set for huge scenes later this year, when the BBC soap returns to screens.

The show went off air in June due to the coronavirus pandemic halting filming in March.

EastEnders ran out of episodes, and instead began airing spin-off series Secrets From The Square, as well as classic episodes.

But now, the soap is returning to BBC One next week and actor Danny Dyer has promised it will be "back with a bang".

Not only that, but his character Mick will feature in a huge storyline, which is something he called his best plot to date.

While keeping details quiet, he revealed that while filming had been "tough" and "difficult" the soap was "on another level" now.

He said on The One Show: "It's like a different job I'll be honest with you.

"The social distancing thing, we've got to look after each other. We have been filming in different groups so we're not crossing each others' paths anymore. It's been hard.

"I've got to say, we come back and season two is another level. I'm very excited."

He went on: "It has been tough and difficult but the storyline I have been gifted with is by far the best storyline I have ever had.

"It's very important, I wish I could tell you more. It's a powerful, powerful thing.

"EastEnders has been off the telly for far too long. We're coming back with a bang."

The show makes its comeback on Monday, with plenty of drama to treat viewers with.

Chantelle Atkins plots her escape from abusive husband Gray, while Denise Fox's past is set to haunt her.

The One Show airs weeknights at 7pm on BBC One.
