EastEnders coronavirus fears as 'irresponsible' Queen Vic regulars ignore advice

EastEnders viewers are fearful of the spread of coronavirus in Walford after tonight's episode.

Boris Johnson warned the nation to avoid the pub during a press briefing on Monday night - where he issued the government's new advice on dealing with the outbreak.

But Mick Carter was not heeding the warning by opening the doors to the Queen Vic to his regulars on St. Patrick's Day.

The pub was decorated with green bunting, leprechauns and full of punters in fancy dress guzzling their Guinnesses.

However, EastEnders viewers took to Twitter to jokingly mock Mick for not taking the coronavirus pandemic seriously.

One fan said: "Wow, Mick Carter not taking this pandemic very serious at all. Boozers packed! IRRESPONSIBLE!"

"The #QueenVic seems very busy this evening ..... should I tell them, or will someone else? #EastEnders #SocialDistancing," added another.

A third said: "I see no one at the Queen Vic’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations is following government coronavirus guidelines to avoid pubs... in fact very little social distancing going on at all in Walford"

"No Coronavirus worries in #EastEnders We all need to move to Walford," said a fourth.

Obviously the scenes were filmed weeks ago before the UK was rocked by a full-scale outbreak.

Mick may be forced to close the Albert Square boozer if the locals start to self-isolate at home.

Could this be the end for the Queen Vic?

Earlier todays, This Morning soap expert confirmed it is "business as usual" for Emmerdale - the soap which she writes for.

She revealed that some alterations have been made in terms of meetings and other contact.

But for now the episodes will remain the same with six airing in a week, and with filming continuing too.

Emmerdale writer Sharon Marshall said it's 'business as normal' (ITV)

She explained: "The soaps are still going on, they're still on. As of today everyone is still in and filming."

"We are all still going. A lot of the processes, especially the writers, all work remotely anyway so we can work from home.

"I think we will probably have to look and check who is gonna be available and work around it, but it's business as normal."

Sharon revealed slight changes behind-the-scenes (ITV)

She went on: "A lot of it can be done remotely. Normally for conference we all go up to Leeds and all sit in a big meeting room, and now it's gonna be done by video or by phone."

It comes after reports claimed the show and fellow ITV soap Coronation Street may have to go down to two or three episodes a week,

Filming may potentially be affected by new measures to stop the virus spreading.

*EastEnders airs on BBC One on Mondays and Fridays at 8pm and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm
