EastEnders, Coronation Street and Emmerdale fans in uproar as soaps make same change

Soap fans have shared their dismay over the new coronavirus schedules for EastEnders, Emmerdale, Coronation Street and Hollyoaks, with all four UK soaps halting filming.

As cases and deaths from COVID-19 rise in the UK and around the world, the pandemic has put a stop to TV production and filming.

This has meant all four soaps have had to reduce weekly episode amounts, to make sure they have enough to air over the coming months.

There's fears soaps could run out of new content by early summer if filming does not recommence.

EastEnders and Hollyoaks have gone down to two episodes weekly, on a Monday and Tuesday - while Wednesdays to Fridays will see old episodes of Channel 4's Hollyoaks air.

Emmerdale and Corrie have opted for the same new pattern of one episode on Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week.

But some fans are not happy about this decision.

They've quickly noticed that Thursdays are now soap free for the first time in years.

Asides cancellations due to sporting events and such, soaps have never been cancelled on a Thursday.

Even back in the day, EastEnders was always on a Thursday so it's a big shift for soap fans.

Now, many viewers are calling for one of the shows to move the schedules around and air on this day.

Coronation Street fans have suggested it moves to Thursdays (ITV)

Having a full day without a single new soap episode has left many unsure what to do, with one fan tweeting: "Why can’t it be Emmerdale Tues, Wed and thurs... least we’d have at least one good soap on everyday. Thursdays are gonna suck now!"

Another said: "Anybody else prefer #EastEnders to be on tv on  Tuesday and Thursday so its kind as spaced out over the week so the week isn't so blooming long to have to wait for the next installment of Eastenders!!!"

A third tweeted: "They should spread #coronationstreet out a bit, instead of putting 2 episodes on on Monday and Wednesday, split them between Thursday and Friday."

Meanwhile a fourth added: "@bbceastenders wish you could put #EastEnders on Thursday."

EastEnders and Hollyoaks air Mondays and Tuesdays, while Emmerdale and Coronation Street are on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
