EastEnders confirms flashback episode on New Year's Day as new secrets exposed

EastEnders will air a special flashback episode to reveal the answers to the mysteries still hanging over Albert Square after Christmas Day.

On New Year's Day, the BBC soap will revisit the events of Christmas Day, and show us what we didn't see amid the chaos.

The Mitchell, Carter, Fowler, Slater and Trueman families are all hiding terrible secrets that could destroy them if they ever came to light.

Sharon and Keanu’s worlds were turned upside down on Christmas Day when the truth about their affair and baby secret was finally exposed.

Phil’s fury consumed him, and all hell broke loose on the Square.

During the flashback episode, we will rewind to Christmas Day and viewers will discover exactly how the Mitchells got revenge on the cheating lovers after Keanu's brutal demise.

Over at The Vic, the tension between Mick and Linda reached breaking point as they prepared for a proper Carter Christmas.

Linda chose the bottle over her family and when she disappeared on Christmas Day, the Carter’s were left distraught.

The soap will at last lift the lid on Linda’s whereabouts that day and discover how her drinking leads her, unknowingly, in to a very dangerous situation.

Across the Square, Martin found himself in hot water following a risky job with Tubbs, and began questioning the man he has become.

Desperate to cover his tracks, Martin delved into the murky Mitchell world for help but he may not be prepared for the price he has to pay.

Elsewhere the identity of the guardian angel watching over one Walford family is revealed, whilst another obtains further proof of their suspicions and will stop at nothing to prove they are right.

Executive Producer for EastEnders Jon Sen said: “We all agreed that Christmas is so good we wanted to do it twice!

"So this year the New Year’s Day episode will be a format-busting sixty minute episode taking us back to the beginning of Christmas Day to see the stories from different perspectives.

"As the episode unfolds, viewers will discover what really happened on that day, when new secrets were born and fresh alliances forged.

"I can’t wait to see how fans react.”

EastEnders airs Mondays and Fridays at 8pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One.
