Eastenders confirm New Year's Day episode will have flashbacks and new secrets will be exposed

A special flashback episode of Eastenders will be aired to answer all the questions viewers are begging to know following all the Christmas Day drama.

It will air on the BBC on New Year's Day, where Christmas Day will be revisited and show viewers key moments that we didn't get to see when it was kicking off all over the square. The Mitchell, Carter, Fowler, Slater and Trueman families are all hiding terrible secrets that could destroy them if they're ever revealed.

Sharon and Keanu’s worlds came crumbling down on Christmas Day when their affair was exposed and everyone discovered the baby secret. Phil was overcome with anger and all hell broke loose on the Square.

According to The Mirror, the flashback episode will rewind to Christmas Day and we'll get to see just how the Mitchells got revenge on the cheating lovers after Keanu's brutal demise.

Meanwhile, at The Vic, tension between Mick and Linda reached breaking point as they were getting ready for Christmas.

Linda put the booze before her family as she disappeared on the big day, and the Carters were left distraught.

Next week we'll finally get to see where Linda went that day and how her drinking led her, unassumingly, into a very dangerous situation.

Across the Square, Martin found himself in hot water following a risky job with Tubbs, and began questioning the man he has become.

As he did all he could to cover his tracks, Martin delved into the murky Mitchell world for help, but will he be prepared for the price he has to pay?

While all this is going on, the identity of the guardian angel watching over one Walford family is also revealed.

Executive Producer for EastEnders Jon Sen told The Mirror: “We all agreed that Christmas is so good we wanted to do it twice!

"So this year the New Year’s Day episode will be a format-busting 60-minute episode taking us back to the beginning of Christmas Day to see the stories from different perspectives.

"As the episode unfolds, viewers will discover what really happened on that day, when new secrets were born and fresh alliances forged. I can’t wait to see how fans react.”

EastEnders airs Mondays and Fridays at 8pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One.
