EastEnders' Cheryl Fergison calls on Ed Sheeran to help launch her music career

Former EastEnders star Cheryl Fergison has called upon the services of award winning singer-song writer Ed Sheeran to help get her pop career off the ground.

The former soap star, whose character Heather Trott was killed off in 2012, shared her hopes for a change in career on Loose Women today and thinks Ed could be the man to help her.

Ed has written songs for the likes of Justin Bieber, One Direction and Jessie Ware in the past and Cheryl told the ITV hosts that she would be happy to join that elusive list.

After host Andrea McLean revealed that Ed was friends with panelist Brenda Edwards Cheryl proceed to give an 'audition' to show off her skills.

The 55-year-old belted out the John Paul Young hit Love Is in the Air for presenters in the studio and viewers at home.

"My voice is very low as I'm menopausal" Cheryl joked afterwards.

"As actors, we are chameleons. As entertainers, we're people who should have many skills," she added.

"I'm lucky and blessed to say I'm musical – I play a lot of instruments, I love singing – I love acting, and over lockdown I enjoyed doing some presenting," explained multi-talented Cheryl.

However, despite pursing new ventures, Cheryl admitted she'd be delighted to make a return to her beloved job on EastEnders

Cheryl left Albert Square in 2012 when her character Heather Trott was murdered by Ben Mitchell.

Ben, played by Joshua Pascoe at the time, smashed her over the head with a picture frame after wrongly believing she had grassed him up to the police.

While ha return could be questionable given that her on-screen character is now deceased, Cheryl revealed she's come up with a solution.

"I had this idea, when I first came out, that they could've brought me back as Heather's long lost twin.

"Heather's mum was really awful, she used to sell babies with Babe, so I thought I could come back as Heather's long lost twin and be played by me, the same actress, but they never did that."
