EastEnders' Chantelle will 'find inner-Taylor' as she plans to escape abusive Gray

EastEnders star Jessica Plummer has teased new details about her character's upcoming plan to escape her abusive husband.

Chantelle Atkins has been viciously abused by her hubby Gray Atkins on-screen for the past year, while it was revealed the violence has been going on for much longer.

No one knows about her secret ordeal, but after being trapped in lockdown with a furloughed Gray, Chantelle will decide enough is enough.

She plots to escape him as he remains at boiling point during a testing time for the household, realising he isn't going to change.

But will Chantelle manage to get her and the kids to safety?

Actress Jessica has now revealed more on the plot ahead of the show's return to screens next month.

The show went off air after running out if episodes in June, with the coronavirus pandemic halting filming in March.

When the soap picks back up, it will have been a few months since we last saw the residents with a flash-forward of sorts, instead of following on from the last scenes shown.

In this time, Chantelle has had a "lightbulb moment" and has decided to leave Gray.

Speaking about the scenes due to air soon, Jessica revealed the character had found her "inner-Taylor", with her being a member of the feisty Taylor clan led by mum Karen.

She said on Secrets From The Square to host Stacey Dooley: "I think Chantelle is going to find her inner-Taylor.

Gray actor Toby-Alexander Smith also discussed the looming scenes (BBC)

"I think Chantelle has had her lightbulb moment. I think the penny's dropped."

Gray actor Toby-Alexander Smith also discussed the looming scenes.

He said on the show: "Gray's been furloughed, which is a dent to his ego.

"Of course, naturally, that brings a trigger for Gray to get frustrated with Chantelle.

"Therefore, I imagine he's pretty much at boiling point."

EastEnders returns to BBC One at 8pm on Monday 7 September.
