EastEnders cancels filming after coronavirus outbreak

EastEnders has cancelled filming for the foreseeable future, as the coronavirus outbreak spreads.

The BBC soap has made the decision to suspend filming after the latest government advice.

The decision means that only two episodes will be shown on two days of the week, in what is a huge schedule shake-up.

A Spokesperson from EastEnders said: “In light of the spread of Covid-19, after much consideration, it has been decided that filming on EastEnders will be postponed until further notice.

“The decision was made after the latest government update.

“We will continue to follow the latest news and advice from the World Health Organisation and Public Health England.

“We have also taken the decision to reduce the amount of episodes we broadcast each week to two, so that we can ensure the audience can continue to enjoy EastEnders in their homes for as long as possible.”

“Please note our episodes will now air on Mondays at 8pm and Tuesdays at 7:30pm with immediate effect”

As of 9am yesterday there were 1,950 confirmed coronavirus cases in the UK, with 55 people dead from the infection.

Boris Johnson has introduced a raft of measures to help prevent the virus spreading further, including telling people to work from home where possible and to not visit pubs, restaurants or theatres.
