EastEnders' Ben Mitchell actor calls for more scenes with Ballum Lexi and Lola

EastEnders star Max Bowden, who plays Ben Mitchell, said he hopes for more scenes with Ben and his boyfriend Callum alongside Lexi and Lola Pearce.

Speaking in an interview ahead of the Secrets From The Square episode with Callum actor Tony Clay, Max revealed: "It's really lovely to see the way in which Lexi has taken to Callum and vice versa.

"It'd be nice to see much more of that relationship blossom as well as Lola in the family too."

He also predicted how Ben would be coping during the lockdown, quipping: "I think he's going mad! I would imagine he's sitting staring at the walls."

As the gay couple's relationship is set to be explored in the new Stacey Dooley-fronted behind-the-scenes show, Max said the break up episode and the kissing episode were his proudest Ballum scenes.

He said his favourite LGBT+ characters on the soap in the past were Christian Clarke and Syed Masood, adding: "John Partridge did a great job as Christian, it was a beautiful telling of that community.

Opening up on the Pride episode with Ben and Callum, Max said it was a "joy to work on".

He gushed: "It was brilliant! Lawrence Wilson who directed it did a phenomenal job of bringing everybody together.

"It was a first for the show - the major celebration of Pride hadn't been done before and they put so much time and effort into making it fabulous and colourful."

Max also teased what fans can expect from Monday's Secrets From The Square, and said: " Fans will learn a bit more about how the process of Ballum began, how it all started and what we knew about it all before the famous kissing scene in the park."

He went on: "It was very strange going back to film Secrets From the Square, it's all a new environment on set now, with health and safety being paramount.

"Being that far away from Tony without giving him a hug was very strange!"
