EastEnders' Ben has doubts over Callum romance as he's troubled by his past

EastEnders airs date drama for Ballum next week, as Ben Mitchell ends up upsetting Callum Highway on their first official meet-up.

The couple finally decided to give romance a go in the fallout to the siege, with Ben almost losing his life after being shot by Hunter Owen.

Ben and Callum were meant to go on a date last week, but Callum unintentionally stood him up as he saved Bobby Beale after he wandered onto a train track.

The pair agreed to reschedule, but as the date approaches Ben has second thoughts after Stuart Highway and Jay Brown interfere, leaving him worried.

Jay, and even Ben's brother Ian, remind him of his history with men and how it's never worked out - Ben's first boyfriend Paul was killed in a homophobic attack, while Luke turned out to be the son of his mum Kathy's rapist James Willmott-Brown.

As Jay and Ian's words ring around his head, he's later confronted by Callum's brother Stuart at The Arches.

Stuart pleads with Ben not to hurt his little brother, who only recently came out as gay.

Ben is filled with doubt but decides to meet Callum for the date anyway, only to leave him gutted when he brings Jay and Lola along too.

Things get worse when Ben makes absolutely no effort with him, with Cal planning to leave.

Ben ends up making a decision that upsets him, with the date not going to plan at all.

The next day Stuart is secretly happy about the situation, but it isn't long before Callum figures out his brother meddled.

Callum seeks out Ben and tries to explain, but unfortunately he doesn't get the response he was hoping for.

Lola steps in to offer him some advice about her close friend, and the father of her daughter Lexi, leaving Callum with a decision to make.

He heads to The Vic to track down Ben, and declares he wants to try again and go on another date with him - but he's left surprised by Ben's response. Will Ballum make it work?

EastEnders airs Mondays and Fridays at 8pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One.
