EastEnders anniversary episode will kick off year long storylines for key residents

EastEnders is airing a special anniversary episode next week, which will kick off year long storylines for some residents.

Amid the BBC soap's anniversary, a very special episode will air on Monday, running into the whole week. It will be female led, with the likes of Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) and Denise Fox (Diane Parish) taking centre stage.

Not much is known about the new episode, but a special trailer has been released featuring Linda, Stacey and Denise as well as Suki Panesar ( Balvinder Sopal ), Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) and Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean).

In the trailer, which is titled In A Flash, Everything Changes, the six women are seen standing in their every day outfits before being transformed into a string of glam outfits, whilst a sinister voice over shared the women's worries.

"There is a moment just before you do something. When time freezes. And you think, is this really happening? Am I really going to do this? And then suddenly, it’s done. And your whole world shatters," they said.

It has been teased that what happens in this special episode will have ramifications over the next 12 months for the characters.

Soap boss Chris Clenshaw teased of the huge episode: "We’re all incredibly excited for Monday’s episode with six of Walford’s leading ladies at the fore. What may seem like a regular day in Walford soon takes a twist.

"What transpires for each and every one of them is that in a flash everything changes. This episode will leave the audience with a lot of questions and, what may seem like the end, is only just the beginning of some very big storylines that will play out this year."

Chris previously insisted Linda would play a key role in the BBC soap going forward despite Danny Dyer's exit as Mick Carter.

He said: "Linda’s still very much at the heart of Albert Square and it’s so great to have Kellie. She’s not going to get over Mick very quickly. She was just reunited with him then he was snatched away from her so it won’t be all smiles straight away.

"There are big plans for Linda. She’s going to start shooting something in January that goes out in February and it’s something that we as a show haven’t done before. Linda’s at the centre of that."

"There is a question mark over the future of The Vic at the moment", he added of the owners of the pub now Mick has met his end in the frozen water, "Kellie knows what’s happening and we know what’s happening with the Vic. It’s very exciting."
