EastEnders airs Max Branning twist months after exit in devastating kidnap plot

EastEnders viewers learned of a shocking twist involving Max Branning in the latest episode of the BBC soap, amid speculation of a return.

Jake Wood left the role earlier this year after his character had a fling with Linda Carter, who is now pregnant with his baby.

This week, Rainie Highway confirmed her great-niece Abi was away in France with her grandfather Max.

Jack visited his brother with little Abi in tow, but there was a shock when Jack returned to Walford alone.

He then dropped a shocking update about Max, confirming the character had fled and his whereabouts were unknown.

But that's not all, as Max was confirmed to have fled with little Abi in a kidnap twist which left his brother Jack horrified.

As he returned home and met partner Denise Fox, she asked where little Abi was after noticing he was alone.

He replied, clearly in a panic: "I don't know. It's Max... he's taken her and he's gone!"

Denise was shown reeling from the news with Max being AWOL, but how are Rainie and husband Stuart going to react when they find out?

Whether Abi will be returned safely, and what this means for Max, remains to be told.

Viewers took to Twitter to speculate whether Max might be making a return, as others reacted to the kidnap bombshell.

A third tweeted: "Stuart and Rainie are gonna be devastated about baby Abi."

Meanwhile a fourth viewer said: "Max has done a runner with Abi!"

EastEnders airs Mondays and Fridays at 8pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One.
