EastEnders actor Toby-Alexander Smith talks Gray Atkins' future after explosive downfall

EastEnders actor Toby-Alexander Smith has opened up about what the future holds for him and his character Gray Atkins.

Thursday's episode of the BBC soap ended with Gray being carted off by the police after Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) and Mitch Baker (Roger Griffiths) stopped him from jumping from a bridge.

Gray finally admitted to murdering his wife Chantelle and also came close to death himself as Shirley Carter (Linda Henry) vowed to get revenge on him for the death of Tina.

He even admitted to Whitney that he was the one who killed Kush, but it's unsure if he will stand trial for all of the murders.

Toby, 32, spoke out about Gray's comeuppance and said he agrees with the way in which the story has panned out.

"I think all of the audience have obviously wanted justice for Chantelle, Tina and Kush for so long and it was important that we showed that justice and that comeuppance," he said.

"There was no room for him to have an easy way out and it would have been wrong if they'd have done that. I do think, from the audience's perspective, it's a satisfying ending to the storyline," he added to Digital Spy.

Toby recently welcomed his first child with Emmerdale actress Amy Walsh and is all caught up in parenthood to even think about his next career move.

Commenting on what's next for him, he said: "Changing nappies, fixing breast pumps. If I stand up, I just rock from side to side – that's my go-to now, 24-7.

"There's potentially some things in the pipeline but right now I am very happy to be a full-time daddy for as long as I can be," he added.

EastEnders airs Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One.
