East Renfrewshire will remain at Level 2 of lockdown restrictions despite a spike in the number of people testing positive for covid in the area, Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed.
The First Minister made the announcement at a media briefing in Edinburgh today where she also announced Glasgow would remain at Level 3 for now.
It means residents in Glasgow should not visit a neighbouring local authority which is at Level 2, unless for an essential purpose such as education or work.
Pubs and restaurants in East Renfrewshire are still able to serve alcohol indoors, while cinemas and bingo halls can remain open.
The suburban area to the south-west of Glasgow became Scotland's covid hotspot when case rates overtook those of the city.
Glasgow is now the only part of Scotland to remain at a higher tier of coronavirus restrictions while the Moray council area will drop to Level 2.
The SNP leader said improvements following measures brought in to tackle an outbreak in Moray mean it can drop to Level 2 from midnight on Friday.
East Renfrewshire, which has a higher seven-day average rate of cases per 100,000 people at 118.3 than Glasgow, will remain in Level 2.
Sturgeon said the total number of cases in East Renfrewshire is significantly smaller than in Glasgow, with only 17 on Thursday compared to 166 in the city.
