East Renfrewshire's festive bin collections and how to dispose of your Christmas tree

East Renfrewshire residents without a garden waste permit can pay £15 to get their Christmas tree collected.

The council brought in a £40 annual charge for garden waste collection earlier this year, and those with permits will get their tree collected at no extra cost.

Anyone without the permit can pay for a one-off uplift online, with the service available until Friday, January 14.

Alternatively, the council offers a free chipping service at Cowan Park in Barrhead and Rouken Glen in Giffnock or you can take your tree to Barrhead or Greenhags recycling centres.

Slots at the recycling centres can also be booked online.

East Renfrewshire Council recently confirmed its waste collection plans for the festive period, with no brown bin collections from Monday, December 27 until Monday, January 10.

All other household bins will be collected as normal during this period. Special uplifts will also be suspended from Monday, December 27 until Monday, January 10. They can be booked again from 2pm on Thursday, January 6.

Barrhead recycling centre is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and Sunday, January 2 while Greenhags will only be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Both sites close at 3pm today (Christmas Eve) and on New Year’s Eve. Visitors should book before travelling to a centre, the council says.

For Christmas tree collection, they must be broken down and disposed of in your bin, with the lid closed, as no trees will be lifted from the pavement.
