East Renfrewshire dubbed the 'happiest place in Scotland' in new poll

It's all smiles on East Renfrewshire as the area was named the happiest in Scotland .

The annual Happiness Index had locals of Eaglesham, Busby, Waterfoot and Clarkston jumping for joy as the local authority topped the list.

It scores in the 90th percentile across all local authorities in the UK for earnings, with the top earners pushing it up amongst local authorities in Scotland.

The Royal Mail findings are based on an index that is composed of eight measures which are relevant to one’s happiness.

These include the reported personal well-being, life expectancy, average earnings, inequality within the area, carbon emissions, crime levels of deprivation and access to health care.

So your average punter is expected to live a long, happy, safe and environmentally friendly life if they stay in East Renfrewshire.

A spokesperson for Royal Mail said: “This new study takes a look at the areas across the UK sparking the most joy.

"For people across the UK looking to live in or visit the happiest places, there are plenty to choose from. Royal Mail connects communities and businesses across the UK, delivering to nearly 30 million addresses.”
