An annual celebration of the region’s business successes has been postponed because of the coronavirus outbreak.
East Midlands Chamber was due to host its annual dinner at Colwick Hall, in Nottingham, on Thursday, March 19.
The black tie event was due to be attended by 550 guests from across Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, hosted by chamber president Dawn Edwards.
Guest speaker was Olympic track and field athlete Greg Rutherford MBE.
However the chamber has decided it would be sensible to postpone the event in light of the pandemic
It is the latest in a number of high profile events to be cancelled in the region, including a charity Ballroom Blitz night which was due to take place at the King Power Stadium in Leicester on April 2.
That will now take place in the autumn.
A film, television and comic convention at Nottingham's Motorpoint Area has been postponed because of the coronavirus outbreak.
EM-Con Nottingham 2020 had been due to take place on the weekend commencing May 2.
Organisers have said it will be pushed back until Saturday, July 18, and Sunday, July 19.
Meanwhile retailers such as Disney and Apple have temporarily closed stores and airline owners are pleading to the government for state support to help them survive the pandemic.
The chamber event – where a table of 10 can cost up to £1,200 – will now be held on July 8.
In a statement the organisation said despite the postponement, “the event is a fantastic opportunity to carry out high-level networking with some of the region’s leading business figures and is also an opportunity to entertain clients and cement working relationships”.
The chamber said Greg Rutherford will again be the guest speaker while Derby North MP Amanda Solloway – recently appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy – will also speak.
