East Midlands Airport police fine man who travelled from Mansfield to watch planes

A 54.2 mile round trip to watch planes at East Midlands Airport led to a fine of £200 for one Mansfield man.

Police at East Midlands Airport say regular patrols are being conducted to prevent people breaking the Covid lockdown rules in the area.

On Sunday (February 14) evening, officers issued a £200 fine to a Mansfield man who had travelled to the airport to watch planes.

Currently, just cargo planes are flying in and out of the usually busy airport site at Castle Donington, on the border of Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire.

East Midlands Airport police tweeted: "Another covid fine issued to a male found East Midlands Airport this evening after travelling from Mansfield to watch planes. £200 fine for watching a plane...is it worth it? Regular patrols being conducted and you may find yourself fined if breaching the current covid restrictions."

It comes after a couple from West Bridgford who were caught near East Midlands Airport claiming 'they were watching planes.'

They had travelled nearly 13 miles from their home address.
