East Midlands Airport flights could be cancelled after yellow weather warning issued for fog in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire

Travel disruption could be expected after a yellow weather warning has been issued for fog across Nottinghamshire.

The Met Office issued a yellow - or 'severe' - weather warning for the region lasting from 1am until 11am on Saturday morning.

It said: "Fog is likely to lead to some travel disruption on Friday night and Saturday morning."

The weather service also said to expect "slower journey times likely on roads, with delays to bus and possibly train services."

Delays could affect flights departing from East Midlands Airport in Castle Donington.

The warning continues: "Delays or cancellations to flights are possible."

The Met Office has issued the following advice for road users when travelling in fog:

  • Avoid travel if possible
  • Drive very slowly with dipped headlights, full-beam lights reflect off the fog causing a 'white wall' effect
  • Keep an eye on your speed, fog can give the illusion of moving in slow motion
  • Use fog lights, but remember to turn them off when the visibility improves
  • Don't hang on the tail lights of the car in front, rear lights can give a false sense of security
  • Watch out for freezing fog which is made of water droplets that freeze on contact with objects such as the pavement, road, car, etc. It can quickly form a layer of ice.
