East Lothian Wetherspoon's shuts down for deep clean after suspected norovirus outbreak

A Wetherspoon’s pub was quickly shut down in East Lothian this week after a suspected outbreak of norovirus.

The David MacBeth Moir had temporarily closed to customers on Thursday (August 19) as a number of safety precautions were carried out.

The popular bar in Musselburgh was praised by Environmental Health for their "swift action" after suspected cases of the virus came to light.

Due to a number of customers and staff reporting symptoms of the intense and unpleasant virus, a decision was made to deep clean the entire property to avoid further infection.

Known to be an easily transmissible illness, health officers had inspected the pub after the deep clean was carried out, before allowing it to reopen on Friday (August 20).

According to the East Lothian Courier, a company spokesperson for JD Wetherspoon’s said:

“There was a suspected norovirus outbreak at the pub which affected a number of customers and staff.

“The pub’s management worked closely with environmental health officers (EHOs) and the pub underwent aa deep clean.

“The EHO were happy with the swift action taken and gave management the go-ahead to reopen the pub on Friday morning.
