East Lothian tragedy as body found in search for missing man Kieran Dixon

Police searching for a man missing from East Lothian have discovered a body in efforts to trace him.

Officers have informed the family of Kieran Dixon of the discovery in woodland near his home town of Dunbar on Wednesday, June 9.

Police Scotland scrambled the force helicopter in an effort to locate the 34-year-old, last seen in Lochbridge Road, North Berwick, on Tuesday around 6.30pm, earlier on Wednesday.

The air support unit was called off shortly after 1pm while ground searches around the surrounding area continued.

Formal identification is yet to be obtained, but officers have informed Mr Dixon's family.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police Scotland can confirm that around 4pm on Wednesday, 9 June, the body of a man was found near to woodlands in North Berwick.

"Although formal identification has still to take place, the family of Kieran Dixon, 34, reported missing from Dunbar on Tuesday, 8 June, has been informed."

The spokesperson added: "There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances. As with all sudden deaths, a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."
