East Lothian Tesco shopper fumes after 'meat table' put next to vegan aisle

An East Lothian Tesco shopper was left unimpressed after noticing an awkward detail in her local supermarket.

The woman took to social media to vent her fury after spotting a 'meat tasting table' beside the vegan food aisle.

The supermarket confirmed to Edinburgh Live that staff will move the stall after it was brought to their attention.

The woman, who visited the Tesco Extra in Musselburgh, shared an image of the meat table on Facebook to show her disgust, also pointing out the strong smell, which she warned could be upsetting for vegans.

Other vegan and vegetarian customers were quick to point out how unfair the positioning of the table was to those who choose not to eat animals.

This pop-up stall is a new addition to the supermarket. Tesco bosses say it will help promote healthier eating with a 'variety of meat and veg combinations'.

The stall appears to operated by a worker cooking some snacks for people to sample and is titled 'Meat and Veg'.

Tesco confirmed they would move the meat-tasting stall.

A Tesco Spokesman added: "We know there is a growing appetite for plant-based meat alternatives and we offer one of the largest selections with more than 400 products in the range.

"To offer our customers choice and to help those choosing a flexitarian diet, some plant-based products are placed in the meat aisle. We also have dedicated plant-based areas for those who exclusively buy plant-based products."
