East Lothian's top ten attractions and days out according to Tripadvisor

With the weather improving across the country, many families are trying to come up with ways to enjoy a day out this Summer.

But fear not, for Tripadvisor has created a top ten list of the best venues to galavant to in East Lothian. And there is something for everyone with visits to family parks and museums touted as a stupendous day out.

Coming out in top spot is the ‘National Flight Museum.’ Over one thousand people have left reviews on the popular tourist site and Tripadvisor says that it has a respectable four and a half star rating.

Young aeronautical engineering fans can get their fix of model planes and science whilst also being able to take a walk around the discontinued Concord. It is certainly a fun trip out for the whole family.

Another family friendly business that has excited reviewers by coming fourth is the ‘East Links Family Park.’ The exterior of the area looks like an amazing medieval castle, with shields emblazoned on its wooden facade.

Little warriors will be able to enjoy alpacas, a restaurant and a giant wooden climbing frame, that might not be one for those scared of heights. Again this has been given a four and a half star review by users.

Tantallon Castle, which comes in an admirable second place, has been touted as “an amazing place situated in a stunning location with superb views out to Bass Rock and the Firth of Forth.” This could be an ideal spot for a picnic as you soak up the warm Summer sun.

The Bass Rock is also mentioned within the list being placed at number six. Those wishing to visit the space will have to take a boat out there, with the journey being an attraction in itself.

Of course anyone thinking of heading out during the school holidays should check out the Seabird Centre. But beware that visiting may be restricted in the coming months due to an outbreak of Avian bird flu that has devastated the local bird population.

For the more mature tourist or visitor, there is also the North Berwick Gin Distillery and the Newhailes House and Garden.

The list is as follows:

  1. National Museum of Flight
  2. Tantallon Castle
  3. John Muir Alpacas
  4. East Links Family Park
  5. Belhaven Beach
  6. Bass Rock
  7. Seacliff Beach
  8. The John Muir Way
  9. NB Distillery
  10. Newhailes House & Gardens
