East Lothian Rangers warn against lockdown BBQ's after spate of fires

Countryside Rangers in East Lothian are warning the public not to become tempted to have a countryside BBQ as there is a "high risk of fire"

The news comes as Nicola Sturgeon eased lockdown restrictions, allowing for more than one household to mix in the outdoors and even have a picnic or BBQ.

However, East Lothian Rangers are concerned after a spate of countryside fires have broken out in the area over the last few days due to disposable BBQs.

East Lothian Countryside Rangers took to social media to warn of the dangers of using a disposable BBQ when the weather has been so dry.

The said:"HIGH RISK OF FIRE! There hasn’t been a significant amount of rain for months now meaning that there is a high risk of fire in the countryside.

"We have had four out of control fires in the last three days on different sites caused by disposable BBQ’s and irresponsible fires.

"Not only do they pose a risk to people and wildlife, they put additional pressure on the emergency services.

"Fires and BBQ’s are NOT PERMITTED in woodlands or in or near grassland. Many thanks to A. Wyatt for the first photo."
