East Lothian pub closes due to Covid outbreak two days after lockdown easing

A popular East Lothian pub has been forced to close its doors just two days after lockdown rules were relaxed, after a Covid outbreak.

The Crown and Kitchen in East Linton shared the news on Facebook on Wednesday and have since announced that they will remain closed until Thursday next week (May 27) as a safety precaution.

The statement read earlier this week: "Due to recent positive tests for Covid within the building, we understandably closed last night & will be again closed today.

"We are currently following the correct government procedures by carrying out a full risk assessment, having all staff tested, ensuring a deep and thorough clean of the premises and are in communication with the local health authority.

"It’s a very unfortunate situation, however the safety of our customers and staff is our priority. Once safe to do so we will re-open soon. Bookings for this evening are being contacted at the moment and we will of course keep you updated. "

However, in a follow up post, the pub shared that The Crown and Kitchen would remain closed until next week and re-open on Thursday 27th May - describing the closure as "a huge blow as we were really looking forward to welcoming you back under the current restrictions."

It is not clear how many individuals tested positive for coronavirus at the site.
