East Lothian police on quads deployed to 'deal with' law-breakers

Police on quads have been deployed in East Lothian in a bid to tackle the illegal use of off-road motorbikes.

Officers have been carrying out targeted patrols near Smeaton Shaw Farm and Smeaton Shunt Substation following reports of illegal 'motorsport'.

East Lothian Police shared news of the activity on social media, and in their post Constable Stewart from Musselburgh Community Policing Team said: "I understand people wishing to partake in motorsport however this must be done in a safe and legal manner.

"No permission has been given to use the land in question and we will continue to patrol the area and deal with any criminality accordingly."

Police from Musselburgh Community Policing Team, along with specialist resources and traffic officers, have also been out conducting patrols in previous weeks.

As part of the patrols a male driver was cautioned and charged for not having insurance.
