East Lothian pensioner, 82, rushed to hospital after being struck by car

A pensioner has been rushed to hospital in East Lothian after they were knocked down by a car.

Emergency services raced to the scene in Tranent on Thursday afternoon after reports that a vehicle had been involved in a crash with a pedestrian.

Arriving at the scene at around 5.35pm, a number of police vehicles cordoned off a section of road outside the Royal Bank of Scotland building.

Speaking on Thursday, police confirmed that the pedestrian, an 82-year-old man, was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.

It is unknown if the driver sustained any injuries as a result of the crash.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a crash involving a car and a male pedestrian on High Street, Tranent, around 5.35pm on Thursday, 18 August, 2022.

“The 82-year-old male pedestrian was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

“Enquiries into the crash are ongoing.”
