East Lothian parents forced to 'walk into oncoming traffic' during school run

A concerned local resident says parents are having to walk into oncoming traffic during the school run because of road works,

The East Lothian local complained that the works are forcing people to walk onto the busy road whilst taking their children to school, with no cones or signage in place.

He said: “Ridiculous situation at Abbey Road currently with nursery and school children having to walk with no cones for protection with oncoming traffic, including buses.”

However, some locals responded to the post and said there is no need for anyone to walk on the road because there are pedestrian diversion signs up directing the public to use the other footway.

The local council in East Lothian agree and say that the works on Abbey Road are temporary but there is signage informing people to walk on the other side of the road.

An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: “This location is a narrow road but with footpaths on either side and people are advised to use the clear footpath during these temporary works.”
