East Lothian owner left furious after puppy eats human poo next to river

An East Lothian resident has been left furious after her puppy accidentally ate human waste in Musselburgh.

While walking her 10-month-old retriever Bonnie, Musselburgh local Ashleigh Elvin told Edinburgh Live that they have encountered faeces on multiple occasions near the River Esk.

In recent months, the grove area near the river has been a popular site for antisocial behaviour, with litter, graffiti and other waste left scattered.

However, while out walking a number of times Ashleigh was forced to pull Bonnie away after she sniffed out a pile of unpleasant matter on the ground.

After also discovering soiled wipes and tissues, both Ashleigh and other local residents have grown tired of the disregard for the local area.

Seriously concerned over the risk to both Bonnie and other dogs health, she said:

"The first time down at the grove was a few weeks ago on a Sunday morning around 8 am and the second time was just this morning, again early at about 8:30 am.

"A number of times I’ve also found soiled wipes and tissues along the water front area. There was a third incident but it was located up in the graveyard by Saint Michaels Parish Church.

"The grove area has been a topic of conversation recently with benches being burnt down, graffiti everywhere and loads of litter being left. Just the other day I had to grab a curry soaked tray out of my dogs mouth. Crisp packets or carrier bags are one thing but human waste is completely unacceptable.

"Not only is it foul but there’s a real risk of her getting ill."
