East Lothian mum shares incredible hack to help treat symptoms of chickenpox with SHAMPOO

An East Lothian mum has shared an incredible tip to soothe chickenpox, after her daughter Reagan contracted the illness.

Clare Jenkin, from Musselburgh in East Lothian, advised her Facebook friends to use Head and Shoulders Classic Clean shampoo after her doctor tipped her off about it's healing powers.

Instead of using the shampoo in the usual way, she used it as a bubble bath and the tip completely eased her daughter's itchy spots - she even posted a photo showing how much they'd cleared up.

She told Facebook how her doctor recommended using Head and Shoulders Classic Clean shampoo, but has a bubble bath - and the result worked wonders on her daughter Reagan.

She wrote: "Anyone whose kiddies pick up chickenpox, I cannot recommend this enough!!"

Clare continued: "Reagan went to the docs today and we were advised to use Head and Shoulders CLASSIC as a bubble bath to soothe the spots.

"The difference is unbelievable! Over an hour without a single scratch or moan! No more angry red spots. Hopefully this helps anyone else who’s at their wits' end with scratching children."

Clare Jenkin posted the amazing hack on Facebook (Facebook)

Clare's post has clearly been a hit with fellow parents. It's been shared 156,000 times within just three days and received 36,000 comments on Facebook  - many of them tagging people in to share it with them.

However, some commenters - suspected to be from the USA - have slammed Clare for not vaccinating her daughter against the illness.

It seems that they didn't know that the chickenpox vaccine is not part of the routine childhood vaccination schedule in the UK.

It is currently only available on the NHS for those who are at high risk of spreading the virus to particularly vulnerable people.

The majority of the comments were positive, though. One mum said she'd given it a go herself and had similar success, saying:

"I actually tried this this morning and it seems to have calmed the itch right down."

(Clare Jenkin's daughter Reagan's skin was left almost completely clear)

Another said it helps with her own skin condition, adding: "I use this on my body for my psoriasis and it helps so much redness goes down and skin isn't as scaly."

Chickenpox is a very common childhood illness, particularly among children at primary school and is caused by a highly contagious virus (called Varicella Zoster).

In 2017, Superdrug became the very first high street retailer to offer a chickenpox vaccination.
