An East Lothian man was forced to miss a day of work after his £5000 bike was stolen from his home in the middle of the night.

Jack Sayers' motorcycle was nicked on Tuesday October 11 and police believe the thieves made away in a dark coloured Ford vehicle towards Tranent.

Jack Sayers launched an appeal on social media, writing: "Keep an eye out, somebody decided to help themselves to my bike last night. Stolen from Macmerry between 00.15 & 03.00."

It is the second time the construction worker's motorbike has been stolen and he believes it could be anywhere in Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, he said: "I’ve had a bike stolen in Leith before and it’s totally possible this one has ended up in Edinburgh.

"I’m just about to leave my job as a Weighbridge Operator in the Construction Industry for a IT Apprenticeship in the Banking Industry. It’s a 23k drop in income so this is the last thing I need."

Jack said he also enjoyed hopping on the bike in his spare time.

"It’s a 5k bike. It’s usually used for leisure, It’s a great escape from a mental health perspective", he added.

'However the day after it was stolen, my MOT was due so I had to miss work as I had no spare transport. Overall, it’s a great escape from day-to-day life that I’ll now be missing.

"Simply because a few people thought they were entitled to take something I’ve worked hard to pay for."

"We’d only moved in a few months ago, so it’s been a huge hit to the community as we all thought it was far safer."

Officers from the East Lothian Community Action Team are now appealing for information following the theft of Jack's Black Yamaha Tracer 900 motorcycle which was stolen from the Appleby Drive area of Macmerry.
